Dealing with the causes and consequences of parental alienation is one of the most difficult asks faced by the Family Court. This article precedes a special conference on the issue, involving a distinguished panel of family lawyers and professionals, which takes place at Withers LLP on 24 May 2016.

The article discusses the causes, features and common presentations of parental alienation, and outlines and harmful consequences that can flow for children in both the short and long term when alienation takes place.

The article goes on to explore current jurisprudence on 'implacable hostility' and discusses some of the techniques that are available to practitioners and judges to tackle cases where alienation is an issue.

A special event is being held jointly by Withers LLP and 1 King's Bench Walk to bring together a distinguished panel of experts for a discussion on these issues. This event will take place at the London offices of Withers LLP on 26 May 2016 at 6 pm.

The full version of this article appears in the May 2016 issue of Family Law.
