Breaking down barriers: creating family law seminars where there are no ‘stupid questions’

The Family Law Breakfast Club was launched in January 2024 to provide junior members in family practice with a space to ask "silly questions" they may not feel comfortable asking. This was due to a disconnect between junior practitioners and senior practitioners who may feel overwhelmed by their caseloads and lack of experience in understanding court procedures. The initiative aimed to create a space where "stupid doesn't exist" by addressing the issues faced by trainees and fee earners.
The Breakfast Club aimed to provide a platform for junior practitioners to ask questions and share ideas on cases procedure and process. The initiative also aimed to address the pressures placed on fee earners and supervisors to manage their caseloads and provide ongoing training and support to junior members.
The monthly breakfast seminar on fundamental issues within family practice was delivered to a wide audience without requiring pre-reading lecture slides or long registration processes.
