In July 2006 the Department for Constitutional Affairs amalgamated Clerkenwell and Shoreditch County Courts and the new court - conveniently called Clerkenwell and Shoreditch County Court - moved to new premises in Gee Street, near the Barbican in central London. At the same time the court was designated as a divorce county court in order to remove some of the pressure on the Principal Registry and to provide a local family court for those living in Islington, Camden and Hackney. The court has two full-time circuit judges and five district judges as well as five visiting judges 'ticketed' to hear public law cases. The courthouse, which is equipped for video hearings, is 5 to 10 minutes walk from Old Street, the Barbican and St Pauls' tube stations and a 15 minute bus ride from the Temple.

For further information contact the Gee Street Courthouse, 29 - 41 Gee Street, London EC1V 3RE, general office 020 7250 7200, fax 020 7250 7250. See October [2006] Fam Law for the full article.
