There is a switch on the dashboard of my car which I can press in order to reach a steady speed on the motorway. With no deviation, hesitation or variation.
It’s very simple, and it’s lazy.
I worry that we’ve allowed over-simplified and over-austere thinking into the way that couples are dealt with in family law cases.
Whether it the duration of maintenance, the fair division of capital, or security, I think that wives are getting the thin end of the deal.
And we’ve still got a way to go to achieve true equality of treatment, with truly equal respect being given to each member of the couple. It’s always a good idea to look critically at a status quo, and it’s now time for a rethink.
Turn off the automatic speed control. Time to exercise some autonomy.
