Date:16 MAR 2023
Third slide
Claire Molyneux, Consultant, Mills & Reeve LLP

Dr Angharad Rudkin, University of Southampton

In this article, Claire Molyneux asks Dr Angharad Rudkin to explain simply and accessibly the effects of chronic parental conflict on children and to describe the types of professional support that can be helpful for children whose parents are separating. Dr Rudkin describes what children may typically find difficult when their parents are separating and sets out some key messages professionals working with families can deliver to parents about how best they can support their children through a difficult separation. The article also looks at the language of separation and the Lawyers’ Charter created by Claire Molyneux in 2021, which is designed as an option to support both lawyers and parents as parents work through sorting out arrangements for their children when they separate.
