The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has responded to its consultation on increasing selected court fees and Help with Fees (HwF) income thresholds by inflation. The government has confirmed that it will continue with the proposal as planned and will increase 129 fees in line with historical inflation dating from August 2016, or the date the fee was amended if later, to the start of the 2021-22 financial year, and will continue the proposed inflationary uplifts to the income thresholds in the HwF remission scheme by applying inflation backdated to August 2016 to the start of the 2021-22 financial year.

The response also stated that the government intends to regularly update fees by inflation to ensure that fees continue to accurately reflect the costs of providing the services. The proposals will take effect in early Autumn 2021 via negative statutory instruments.
