HM Courts and Tribunals Service has announced that the lord chief justice, Lord Burnett of Maldon, delivered a speech about judicial appointments and diversity in the Treasurer’s Lecture 2019 at Middle Temple.
Lord Burnett talked about how the judiciary is changing and has become more diverse and representative of the society it serves and why that matters. He said that promoting diversity and appointing on the basis of merit are mutually reinforcing, because the wider the pool the greater the availability of talent, the greater the competition for places and the greater the quality of appointments.
