LAA opens public consultation on its Welsh Language Scheme

The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) has invited the public to take part in a consultation on its Welsh Language Scheme.

The LAA has adopted the principle that in the conduct of public business and the administration of justice in Wales, it will treat the English and Welsh languages on a basis of equality. The draft scheme (available to download below) sets out how the LAA will give effect to that principle when providing services to the public in Wales.

The aim of the policy is to enable everyone who receives a service from the LAA in Wales, or communicates with it, to do so through the medium of English or Welsh, according to their personal choice.

The scheme has been produced in accordance with guidance from the Welsh Language Commissioner under the Welsh Language Act 1993 and will be submitted for formal approval by the Welsh Language Commissioner following the consultation process.

The consultation closes on 14 November 2014 at 11:45pm and responses should be submitted by email to WLScomplaints@legalaid.gsi.gov.uk.
