Family and Child Law in Wales: Recent Developments

In 2007, research into the impact of devolution on the development of family and child law in Wales was undertaken by the author on behalf of the North Wales Family Justice Council. The findings revealed that some divergences were gradually beginning to emerge in terms of law and policy between Wales and England (O Rees, Devolution and the Development of Family Law in Wales [2008] Child and Family Law Quarterly 45). Since then, a number of developments have taken place as a result of the conferral of further law-making powers on the National Assembly for Wales and the intention of this article is to provide an update on how devolution has further impacted on family and child law matters in Wales over the past two years.
