There was much reported during the pandemic as to the drastic rise in referrals for domestic abuse, to various national helplines and stellar efforts were made by all front line workers in trying to reach out to as many victims as possible. We know also of the almost overnight changes to legal practice with the move to remote hearings and how that impacted on urgent applications (and still continues to impact in some instances). But what of the impact of the pandemic itself of those very victims we are trying to help? Read this article for a viewpoint on the pandemic, the surge in domestic abuse cases and the impact on some of the most vulnerable in our society.
