De-linking financial proceedings from divorce proceedings to go ahead

A new process of administratively de-linking financial proceedings from divorce proceedings will be rolled out across England and Wales on 19 June 2017, the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary has confirmed. The decision was taken following a successful pilot in the south-west region.

On 27 April 2017, HM Courts & Tribunals Service announced plans to conduct a pilot in the South West Regional Divorce Centre in Southampton to administratively de-link financial proceedings from divorce proceedings. The aim was to introduce improvements to how financial applications are dealt with.

It has been reported the pilot was successful and achieved its aim of introducing a more streamlined process, reducing delays experienced by court users as files are transferred between courts by up to two weeks.

A national rollout of the new process to all courts in England and Wales will now take place on 19 June 2017.
