The Department for Education has published the outcome to its consultation on the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on adoption and children regulations. The majority of 189 responses supported measures which have been introduced amid coronavirus such as relaxed timings of medical reports in the foster carer and adopter assessment processes, virtual visits and suspension of Ofsted inspections.

As a result, the government will permit an extension of a small number of flexibilities until March 2021. The Adoption and Children (Coronavirus) (Amendment) Regulations 2020, SI 2020/445 will nonetheless expire on 25 September 2020. The government has no plans to extend the regulations beyond March 2021.
