One of the newly appointed QCs, Elizabeth Isaacs from St Ives chambers, was shortlisted for Family Law Junior Barrister of the Year 2012. Four of the five new family silks have written for Jordan Publishing or been a speaker at one of their conferences.
The number of family law silks appointed this year is less than in previous years. Last year seven were appointed and in 2011 a record of 17 silks were selected.
Overall there were 84 new silks, down from the 88 QC appointments last year. Out of 84 appointments only one is a solicitor advocate.
The number of applications made also decreased. 183 applications were made this year compared to 214 applications in 2011, 251 applications in 2010, and 275 applications in 2009.
The new silks will be sworn in on Wednesday 27th March. The independent Queen's Counsel Selection Panel will invite applications for the next round of appointments in March 2013.
